I was so excited at how easy it was to train my young Cavalier to stand and bait. When I told his breeders about this, their comment was, "they aren't supposed to stand like little statues!" Oh. So I had a young dog who finished acting like a whirling dervish-whatever that is, and now have a "special" who will stand like a statue. I wish I would have reinforced the stand including the wagging tail. So now "wag" is on command-but doesn't always transfer to the show ring. We have our work cut out for us-but I don't expect much out of a special before 3-they are hardly ready anyway. I think I will make a little sign for him that says, "dog in training" so we can go about our business without the worry. I do think the show ring is also a training ground for young dogs. A judge who dumps you once cause of bad presentation, won't do it again if the dog is looking good the next time out.
Now our wag command includes scratching with the back legs and barking-more stuff to work on!!!
