Hi,

I have a 14 1/2 year old Cavalier that has been tested positive for
Cushings Disease. He has been on the Anipryl for the Cushings over a year
now. I wonder all the time of the changes I see in him, if it is from the
Cushings or just
the old age "cognitive dysfunction syndrome" causing it.
Since he has been diagnosed with it, his cataracts have gotten worse and I
believe he sees nothing now. He is always bumping into walls and things but
finally gets out of the situation. His hearing has totally disappeared also.
He is so unbalanced now and stumbles, I wonder if that is from the blindness
and the hearing being gone.
As for quality of life, this is going to be a hard decision to make. He
eats with such gusto, loves getting his brushing, and tolerates his bathing,
but seems to love being clean. Wags his tail when you pet and touch him. He
wonders around the back yard for hours sniffing and walking, which I think
this is the only exercise he gets. He always finds his way back into the
dog house (heated) where his bed is. I used to think he took cues off of
the other dogs but anymore, I don't think he knows they are there unless he
bumps into them.
In the evening he comes into the house and makes his way around with no help
and finds his bed and naps for the evening.
The behavior that he showed before we found the Cushings was soiling in the
house which is something he never did before.
What does Cushings destroy and how long can they survive with it?
Has anyone had a Cavalier or other breed with Cushings and how did they
progress with it?
My guy has a clear heart so I don't think he will die from a heart attack.
Any info would be appreciated if known.
