HI JEFF, I have four so all of mine roam the house at will sleeping where they want when they want. I have a large picture window leading to the backyard where the squirrels drive the gang nuts. I know they bark like crazy when I am gone and they have the squirrels to make them nuts. I give them a lot of attention when I am home and lots of exercise to were them out. My schedule varies but mine are left alone for about 9 hours 4 days a week and on show days the three are left alone maybe 12 hours or so. I do hire a young girl in the neighborhood whom has my house key to come and walk them about once a week. She takes one at a time on lead for about 1/2 hour. Total time about 2 1/2 hours for all four dogs at $7 per hour she can't do better than that at 13. She loves the dogs and is responsible. I would hire her to baby sit a human kid. Check with your neighbors regarding baby-sitting services-chances are if they are good baby sitters for human babies they might make good sitters for fur babies as well.
