How sad....yet I am glad the dog is out of pain. I am glad that Laura was
able to find someone who rescues poodles. I'll have to ask her how she found
the woman.
Here is a note Laura sent me. Laura is such an animal lover. Marian

I just wanted to let you know the story I mentioned about the dog earlier. I
was out running this morning and came across a little black poodle that was a
mangy mess. His coat was so thin and he had sores on his skin. He was
dragging his back leg. I took him to my vet this afternoon because I had
called a woman that does poodle rescue in Austin and she asked that I do that
before she took him in. She was very nice but just wanted to know what kind
of shape the dog was in before exposing her other dogs. After the vet
examined the dog I decided it was best to put him to sleep. He was really
messed up and very old, at least 16. He had cataract formation, was missing
most of his teeth, his abdomen was very distended (due to heart or liver
failure, tumors, endocrine problems, no way to know for sure), he had a tumor
under his tail, and worst of all his pelvis was broken. I know I did the
right thing, but I just wish he wouldn't ! have cried when he received the
injection. I wish he wouldn't have felt any pain before he died. He was
such a sweet little dog. My vet said he has a man that comes and picks up
the animals that have been euthanized and buries them on his farm along the
Lampassas River. So, that's what I decided to do with the little dog. It
sounded nice. What a day. Well, I guess I should call the poodle rescue
lady and let her know what happened.

Laura
