Dear List,

I have a comment or a suggestion about the pink feet. We own a very old golden who has
always had problems with allergies which we believed caused him to lick and chew his
paws. The fur on his paws was red! (he's blonde) Then someone on this list commented
that the pink colouring between the eyes of a cavalier was caused by a yeast or fungus
condition. At the time one of our cavaliers was experiencing this problem, so I
decided to try a dandruff shamppoo (Nizoral) to see if this would do anything. It did.
Although it did not clean up the already stained area, it did arrest any further
staining. Then I got to thinking about those golden feet. When I gave him his bath I
used the shampoo on his feet , leaving it in while I bathed the rest of him. Lo and
behold the licking and chewing ceased and his feet are much improved. The red
colouration is fading as new hair replaces it. So the culprit might be a fungal or
yeast (similar to athletes foot?)infection that cause this problem.
I have no medical proof to back up my theory but I know I saw dramatic results.
By the way, thanks to the original person who mentioned the yeast infection. Our
golden has driven us crazy for years with his constant licking noises! Peace at last.

Barbara B.
