I love having multiple breeds and learning all the intricacies of the standards-or just the preferences. I am comfortable that my Aussies have almond shaped eyes set obliquely, dark pupils and any color acceptable. Then I got a Cavalier with their round, forward facing, dark pigmented eyes and some that appear to have "running brown pigment" beyond the Iris! This "double pigment" or whatever you wish to call it is a very new thing to me. Because some white sclera can be seen in the inside corners of my Cavalier's eyes, I had to ask the breeders of my dog, John Gammon and Robert Schroll about this phenomena. My thought was the "double pigment" can work to "cover up" otherwise white sclera that should not be showing in the first place. They confirmed what I thought to be true. You strive to get only the lovely dark round Iris showing, and not including sclera of any color. Thought I would share their comments.
