Dear Sheena,
No, no possibility. There were two rubies, one with no white at all, one
with a small patch of white on her chest that covered up with the ruby chest
fur. The B&T had no white, the two parties could have never been mistaken
for anything other than a Blen. & Tri, although they both were more heavily
marked than ideal.
This is always discussed as the easiest way to get all four colors. Blen.
is always receptive because it is recessive to whatever you bred it to.
Without going into the squares, the simplest way to think of it is, Blen x
Blen, both carrying parti and red; Blen x Tri both carrying parti, one
carrying red, one carrying black or the Tri could be dominant and you would
get all Tris, Blen to Ruby, one carrying parti, one whole, both carrying
red, could have both, if ruby is not a dominant ruby or wholecolor. Blen to
B&T, one is carrying red, one black, if the right B&T, all four colors are a
possibility. Tri to ruby, one is carrying parti & black, other red and
whole, all four colors possible if ruby is not dominant red or whole, and
Tri is not dominant, or you will get all B&T's. Ruby to ruby is usually
rubies, possibility for blens. Ruby to B&T is usually wholecolors, unless
both have a parti parent and then you can have all four colors. B&T to B&T
can again produce all four colors, both can not be dominant, both usually
have a parti (blen) parent. This is just in general, very simplified.
This is not written in stone, just what is usual.
