AND.......you can do clicker training for obedience (Morgan Spector's book is the best one on that) and one can start "capturing" behaviors one wants with clicker training before puppies leave the whelping box. As soon as they can be rewarded with a bit of treat (after weaning), one can capture or catch a nice show stance and click and treat. You'd be surprised how much one can do while they are quite young with this method; the pups think it is great fun.
