I need some information about possible causes of low platelet counts. My ten and half year old rescue, Abigail, just had blood- work, and had a platelet count of 60,000. My vet wasn't overly concerned, but felt it was something we needed to monitor. One thing I remembered to ask is if the lab had done a hand count. She said they were supposed to if the number fell below a certain count, but she'd check Monday to be sure they did.
Can someone tell me some of the things I need to be on the lookout for? This little girl is so precious to me. She spent all of her first ten years in a puppy mill, and I want to give her as much time as possible.
