I don't think Josie and I aspire to be on the World Team at her age. :)
There has never been a Cavalier on the US team that competes at the World
Championships. I went to watch last year in Portugal and there were three
Cavaliers competing. One on the British team and two on the team from
Belgium. All were older--the youngest being 7 and the other two were 10.
But in the US, fast Shelties dominate the mini division. Other than
Shelties there has been one American Cocker and one Beagle on the US
mini-dog team over the past five or six years. That could change though, as
the Worlds have gone to three jump heights in 2002, including a true
mini-division for dogs under 13 3/4" tall. This means that Cavaliers would
be competing against dogs more their own size. I still expect the US team
to be dominated by small Shelties, but there is hope for the Cavaliers now!
The Belgium team for 2002 has already been selected and their minidog team
consists of three Cavaliers. I'm thinking of moving there. :)
