We should get together sometime. It would be fun to compare notes on gait. So many folk thing that a fast overstepping gait is especially good. In my opinion, the only dogs that use this gait by choice are, perhaps German Shepherds and that is because they have been bred so that this is the only gait they can do with proficiency. Most of them are not able to perform a gallop very well, if at all. With training, some other breeds can be trained to fly, but it is still not a natural gait and most dogs, if left to themselves to decide, will lope or gallop if they want to go faster than a comfortable trot takes them.
This is, of course, my humble opinion. I do not want to seem pedantic. However, I really can't think of a subject anymore interesting than how animals are built and how the move and I've spent many hours studying the subject. It's fun as well as helpful.
