The once time I tried the "raspberry leaf" addition, my bitch had great
discomfort whelping.  Since then, I've never used anything other than the
following with success: 1. balanced, measured daily diet, 2. balanced, daily
exercise, 3.choosing breeding strains that have generations of long-lived
bitches that whelp naturally and mother instinctively, and generations of
long-lived vigorous and fertile dogs.
