How about Des Moines Iowa? It has some wonderful places and the people are nice and many can drive or fly and the hotels are very reasonably priced? Maybe September when the weather will be cool and the leaves changing. Duluth Minnesota right on Lake Suprior in the fall. It is cool has everything from great hotels to funky little cottages on the lake with some interesting sights to see including Cruise ships for dinner.
