Several people have written to ask for more info on the St. Louis suggestion for this Cavalier Convention idea so I got out my old NNTC information to jog the old brain. All I did remember before being jogged is we had a fabulous time. The host hotel was the Ramada Inn, with a nice restaurant, is perched on a hill. "Dog friendly" was what everyone repeated during the weekend. We suspect that the Purina Farms, not far from there has a financial interest in the hotel-possibly accounting for its canine hospitality. Mind, this was in 2000. It's possible things could have changed but at that time four dogs were allowed per room. It offered a complete and nice sized canine washroom for those needing to bathe dogs, doggy towels and a friendly staff. AND I never heard one complaint. The St. Louis Dog Breeders' Association held its weekend show (which that year was on May 5 and 6) at the Purina Farms facility, which I think is probably advertised on the web and may offer photos of the facility. The hotel offered its own grounds (a large area, perfectly manicured, lush and rolling and hidden from the Purina site) for our specialty and a box lunch was available to anyone who signed up for one. There were a few specialized vendors on the outside and huge tents were available for each of two very spacious rings. Some dear organized person arranged for three buses to pick up anyone wanting to visit the AKC Dog Museum a few miles away so no one had to take a car unless they wanted to. We had a super barbecue dinner at the new beautiful museum (which I believe also has a website) and anyone who wanted to take the free tour of the museum was welcome to. My husband says he remembers buying a lot of Norfolk items from vendors at the specialty and at the museum where we saw most exquisite art depicting many dog breeds. One evening at a member meeting, we met outside under a huge white tent for a banquet dinner and the award ceremonies. And one morning we had a seminar in one of the hotel's ballrooms. For those young at heart I believe there is a huge amusement park nearby-a Six Flags perhaps? I hope if this idea gets off the ground that you do consider St. Louis as a possible site. I think it would be splendid.
