BUT I would hate for us to try to put it together so quickly that it doesn't
work. This is going to take some time to put together properly. It could be
the beginning of something useful or fun or both. If we don't do a proper job
of it and make it as perfect as possible it could backfire. And I think this
fall is way too early as much as I would love to see it happen. I would hope
we could attach it to either a CKCSC or AKC weekend to make it worthwhile for
all to attend. One fun picnic/health or history information day for everyone
and two days for show people since I think they have the most to win or lose
in making this work. I think we need to organize a committee first and go
from there to let them investigate the possibilities. To be fair I believe
the committee should include pet owners, show/breeders, agility/obedience
owners from both camps.
I must say the 8th annual Colorado Picnic that we went to this last weekend
that included all Cavaliers, pet, show, rescue babies was great fun. We can
take a lesson from the organizers of that event. Fifty-two owners showed up
with 40 Cavaliers. 29 signed up for the heart clinic and 20 for the eye
doctor. The first person I would nominate for the committee is Carolyn
Peterson who was one of the people instrumental in organizing this event. She
already has 8 years behind her. I bet there are others out there who have the
same credentials. Let's hear about them and get a committee in gear to put
together a mission statement as to purpose so there is no confusion as to why
we may want to have this event.
