Hi Patricia, I beg to differ with you, but I know that my dog is helped by the Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplementation he receives and that he cannot be having a "placebo effect" as my dog can't read the literature or listen to my veterinarian's advice. Both my regular vet (who is also a surgeon) and a surgical specialist that I have used recommend Glucosamine/chondroitin supplementation for their surgical patients where joints are involved. I would find this an odd recommendation if canines were indeed unable to process this type of supplementation. Interestingly enough in the April 2002 Whole Dog Journal entitled "Don't Lose Heart" that dicusses the role that vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other nutrients play in circulatory health.
