I thought I would share with all of you a happy ending for two little rescues
that have found a cozy and nice home on the West Coast. This is the part of
rescue that warms the heart.

> We want to thank you both for your help with our acquiring Nellie and Ben.
> They are truly a gift and we feel very lucky to have them. They are doing
> great. I am sorry that it has taken so long to get a letter out to you
> both. My only excuse is our busy schedules. I was filing their paperwork
> and saw that I had Teresa's email on one of the forms so I succumbed to
> electronic mail.
>
> F reminded me last Wednesday that since they arrived on March 17th it was
> their one-month anniversary with us. Here is a little recap of the last
> few weeks.
>
> Accidents – we had a couple in the house the first week, but since then
> zero.
>
> License – they are now residents of our town. I did get something from
> your DVM that was enough to get the license, but I have not yet received
> their full history. The girls want to know what their birthdays are. If
> that isn't in the records it will be March 17th. That will make them Irish
> in an Italian household, but that works for Nellie since she is a redhead.
> I did get a great referral on a Vet from Animal Care Center, our old one
> moved on. He has a great boarding facility, which we may need later this
> year.
>
> Walks – they go absolutely crazy when they see a leash. Ben settles down
> once we are outside, but Nellie takes a while. She is not very good on the
> leash so I am working on it with her. I am using Halti harnesses for both
> of them since Ben slipped his collar once and Nellie just about chokes
> herself on the leash. The Halti’s slip on without buckles so they are easy
> and I think pretty safe.
>
> Car Rides – they have done car pool a few times to pick the girls up from
> school and do well. They have also taken a short ride to a local sports
> park we like. Next week I am going to take them to F's softball game to
> see how they do on that type of outing.
>
> Care – they fight over getting brushed. I wish the girls liked getting
> their hair brushed half as much as the dogs do. They get breakfast when we
> get up and dinner and a brushing when I get home. I like to say they are
> happy to see me, M teases saying they are just happy to see their meal
> ticket. They have only had one bath so far and that was pretty easy. The
> second bath night is this week so they are all spruced up for the weekend
> when my parents visit.
>
> Sleeping – we tried a few things and have settled into a regular routine.
> They go to bed with F (9) every night. We put a baby gate in her doorway
> so they stay put. It has really worked out well. F wanted them to sleep
> with her and she got them by default. G (3 ½) doesn’t like them on her bed
> and D (6) sleeps in the top bunk. They slept in the crate, in F's room,
> for the first week. It was OK while everyone was getting used to each
> other but not a long-term solution. They are so used to the routine now,
> they will sleep in her room even if she isn’t there. Nellie sleeps at the
> foot of her bed and Ben alternates between the bed and floor.
>
> Toys – they have their own which they like. Nellie loves to fetch and gets
> really excited to play. Ben just likes to steal the fetch toy from her.
> They have chewed a few Barbie dolls and accessories. But it only means the
> girls need to be more responsible to pick their things up. They have been
> great in the house – no chewing on furniture or shoes.
>
> Their personalities have emerged and they have settled in very well. Both
> of the dogs play well with the girls and the girls are learning to play
> well with the dogs. The girls are also learning to take care of them.
> They are attached to the whole family and want to be with us at all times.
>
> Ben is a bit aggressive towards Nellie, but we are working on curbing that.
> No mounting problems and no marking so his alteration really did the
> trick. G puts him on a time out (by himself in the yard) when she catches
> him biting Nellie’s ears. Yet Nellie is the leader and Ben is the
> follower. They don't really care about our lovebird Sunny. A totally
> opposite reaction than Judy's Sunday had. Which is good for Sunny.
>
> So everything is good here. I will work on getting you some pictures.
>
> Thanks again,
>
