Although I usually lurk, I have to jump in on this one!

My cav, Dodger, is VERY much more trainable than my golden (the
traditional assistive dogs!  He is much better at remembering what he is
supposed to do and he almost seems to understand English, as I'll speak
to him about something in a conversational tone (e.g. the toys over
there behind the bed), no inflections, no pointing, and he went 'round a
got it!
As with any trait, I'm sure some are more "trainable" than others, but I
certainly wouldn't say that Cavs are less trainable than other service
dogs.  And their smaller size makes them more appropriate for some people.
