This afternoon the old man gave in to the ravages of old age and left us
for a better place. We mourn the death of our Doonsie. Honeycott
Doonesbury was born October 15, 1986. At slightly over 15 1/2, Doonsie
suffered no more than the usual symptoms of old age. Of course he had a
mitral valve murmer, discovered just shy of his 8th birthday, but he never
required medication for it. In fact, it had progressed only to a grade 3 -
4 when the cardiologist last checked him in December. Earlier this Spring
Doonsie had a stroke which left him with a tendancy to lean to the right
when he walked. Since that time, Hilarie or I would always take him out
and stay with him to help him if he needed us.

Doonsie was a true gentleman. I think he knew how his passing would affect
Hilarie, so he waited until after she had left for the ACKCSC National
before leaving us. His long time "running buddy" Gwen, and I were sitting
with Doonsie as he slept. Gwen was aware of his passing before I. I think
that is the way with partners, they sense each others needs. There is so
much I could say about Doonsie but suffice it to say that our hearts hurt
for him.
He will be buried on the west side of the yard where he can see the
sunrise. Mornings were his favorite time of the day.

Doonsie, you leave us so many memories, much too soon....
