Hi, Robin -

I consider myself a newbie, too, even though I've been (trying!) to show my
guys for a couple of years. Just thought I'd share some of my Newbie
experiences with you: When I took my Chevy to our first AKC dog show, I went
into the ring, shaking, doing what I thought I was supposed to. When I got
him up on the table, he melted, wagging and licking the judge, I blurted out,
"This is my first show" .....Somehow, we won the class....I didn't even know
what that meant....and went Reserve! I had no idea what that was, either!
The judge was very understanding.....as was a judge down in Maryland a few
weeks later who put us up as Winner's Dog over handlers (I didn't know a
handler from a handle!) for my Chevy's first points. When we were taking our
picture, I, shaking as usual, told him I didn't know what to do, I was so-o
new. He smiled encouragingly and told me, "No one is born with a leash in
their hand - You're doing fine....You have a very nice dog, Ma'am!" :-)
Just some stories to let you know that some judges will be nice, encouraging
to you even though you're new to the game. Some will ignore you,
unfortunately....but at each show, you and Teddy will learn something new,
hopefully, meet someone new and have a great time! Everyone has to start
somewhere! Let us know how it goes! and Good Luck!
