Hi, Carol,
No, you don't have to have a meat slicer; we went to that because it
was a lot of work to cut up portions for ten dogs. I have never frozen
it, but it does need refrigeration after it has been opened. It is much
like sausage in that way. We slice up what we need for a couple of days
in advance and refrigerate it.
No way to guess how much you might go through, but our average Cavalier
would get 5 ounces (weighed) per day in two meals of 2.5 ounce slices.
That is also their only food but for a large biscuit at night and
various small ones during the day. You can feed this in combination
with dry food if you wish.
I prefer to weigh it as if you don't the weight can go on very fast.
They do have marks for slicing inches off the roll, but we have found
that we need far less than is recommended.
So, then I would *guess* a roll might last six days to a week.
I hope that this is helpful!
