Frankie did it! He put on his dress shoes, navy blue
suit and tie, and gaited Teddy around the ring. I
took the advice of all who helped out with our
preparation. He was slated to go in the ring first,
so I asked the ring steward if he could go last since
this was his first time in the ring, and because the
other two in children's handling were 10 and 11 years
old (Frankie is 6; "6 and a HALF!" he says
indignantly). She graciously let him go third. The
other two (girls) gave him pointers on giving Teddy
bait. I told Frankie to follow the girls, do
everything they do, and do everything the judge tells
him to do. He free stacked Teddy beautifully! While
the other two handlers were gaiting their cavaliers,
he started up a conversation with two adults sitting
ringside (always the extrovert is my Frankie!). Then
it was his turn. The judge told him to do a triangle,
and sure enough, he did it! No stepping on Teddy at
all! Then she told him to do a down and back. As he
turned around after the down to start the back, he
almost tripped over Teddy. Good recovery, Frankie!
He placed third, and when they gave him the ribbon, he
looked up at me and yelled, "Mom, they gave me a
ribbon!" Holding the video camera to catch it all, I
gave him a big thumbs up. I was a proud Mom for sure!
And to think, I caught it ALL on video. He's ready
to go to another show anytime. He had a blast.
Teddy did a good job too. He won 1st in the
Junior Puppy Dog class the first day, 2nd in the class
on the second day, and had a really fun time on the
third day. Beginners luck for sure!
