Hi Dave: I agreed with Susan. We too bought the proper house for Purple Martins but here we sit 12 years later and still no Purple Martins.
The poles have to be really high and Purple Martins do not like to fly around things like trees etc, so it have to be clear sailing for them and you also really should be situtated near water (as that is where mosquitos like to thrive). The man that made our house lives about 1/2 hour away and in a village where his house sits 2 streets over from a canal and he has probable 15 Purple Martin houses all filled with tenants but no trees only hydro lines which they love to sit on.
