Hi, Roseanne,
Please tell Gayle for us that we would love to have pet owners who took
their dogs swimming and playing with them. There is no way that such an
accident can be foreseen. She will be in my mind as a wonderful owner
who wanted to be a companian to her dog; every breeder's dream. There
is no reason for blame here; the pain is awful enough.
My dogs go out in freezing cold snow, ice and such in New England and I
think that a healthy Cavalier should be fine swimming. None of us know
the thresholds for failure of body systems in any of our dogs. This is
true of people as well. I know I hold a "guilty conscience" as I wasn't
by my son's side when he had a grand mal seizure in the hospital
once......he had been intractable febrile for ten days; I've finally
come to realize that I couldn't have possibly known in advance. I just
wasn't there when it happened, and that was as it was meant to be I
guess. One simply can't know all that will happen.
Quite right, a cerebral accident is not foreseeable,
preventable........just tragic.
