Hi list, I'm afraid that just because someone is a novice does not automatically imply that they lack common sense or are not a good home. We were all novices once. I can think of a breeder I know that has lost three dogs over the years, 2 were puppies and one was an adult, by not being "tuned" into her dogs. All three deaths were unnecessary. And this person is experienced! The bottom line is that we all goof sometimes, and sometimes with disastrous results. We're not perfect, we do the best we can and so do novices. The novice that listened to her vet and lost the litter probably learned a very tough lesson; that sometimes, the breeder from whom we purchased our dogs has more knowledge than vets. I tell novice puppy buyers to look for a breeder, not a puppy. Find a breeder who has years of experience and knowledge because that is the first person you should turn to when you have questions. And an experienced breeder is in the best position to find the puppy that best fits your needs, and guide you through the joys and sorrows of dog ownership, whether it be for show, performance or "just a pet".
