Gayle, I don't think it was the pool. Mary went swimming with us in a springfed creek (icy cold even in the hottest of summers) with no ill effects. I think it was just one of those things that happen without any warning and no way to prevent. If it hasn't happened to someone, then it will if we own dogs or any animals long enough. William went to the aviary to collect the eggs yesterday and found one of our Black Minora hens dead. No apparent reason, no previous signs of illness, no sign of a predator-- nothing. It has been pretty weather lately so it wasn't heat. The rest of the hens look fine. It's just one of those things. We mourn when it happens, but seldom do we know why. All the best, Susan Cochran
