Hi Jan,

You say there is a big difference in dogs being saturated and hosed off and
that your Aussies were difficult to get wet. I agree with that. I come from
20 something years of Samoyeds and yes the bathing process is a long one
because it took at least 20 minutes to get the coat completly wet enough to
even apply soap.

However, with our precious little Cavaliers a hosing down or jumping in the
wading pool does saturate at least a good part of their body. I was taught
in order to cool down, make sure you completely wet the arm pits, inside
the thighs and privates. I would think that this would be
considered "saturated". Comparing my Sammy to my Cavs, no, my Sammy would
in no way be saturated or possibly not even barely wet, but my cavs are
most defineatly pretty saturated after a hosing or wading. (maybe I am over
watering)- Based on your experience, am I in danger here?

I can only say the times that he did enter the ring "ringing wet" that he
did perform much better than being dry and was pretty comfortable after his
run.

their protection. My dogs have been out in weather just as hot with no
consequences. Yes, they can be sprayed, get in the horse trough, etc. with
no ill effects. I discussed this with several vets-not that I believe all
they say-but we were in agreement. A dog saturated to the skin is not
efficient at cooling. This same dog visited the ocean, rivers etc. all her
life and never experienced problems. I will always let my dogs play in
water, but now I know the difference.

cool off those hard working agility dogs etc. just know the difference.
