Hi, Gerri,
My particular problem with this is that this certainly had potential to
hurt the breed. Many of these AR groups have loose affiliations (fund)
the more radical groups who are listed as domestic terrorists. One can
easily read about it on the FBI site under their yearly report on
domestic terrorism. I believe in the 1999 report on terrorism you can
read about the Vail bombings for instance. Groups like PETA have been
known to bail out
members of the radical groups and pay their legal bills. That is how we
know that they have some affiliation with them.
So, in this case dollars *may* have been sent to fund activities such as
bailing out domestic terrorists as well as such things as anti-breeder
legislation. Such activities as bombings in Vail (where they were
building a ski resort that upset the "deep ecologists"), sending razor
blades in the mail to researchers who worked in, around or near animals
and other similar acts are endorsed by Animal Rightists.
It is one thing to innocently suport such groups on one's own; goodness
knows that many have done so as the veil over these activities is a
pretty good shield. However, when an attorney endorses something and
"clears it" for a group by whom the attorney is trusted as an authority,
there is a presumption of research and expertise involved. This is
called fiduciary responsibility.
In doing a simple search on the internet, I was able to locate several
sources I would trust (including breed organizations) which would raise
red flags if I thought to support DDAL. (I admit that PETA and DDAL
spend a gazillion dollars attempting to co-opt the search engines with
their propaganda, but was able by page two to find other voices.)
If a veterinarian endorsed a medicine in the newsletter which was not
thoroughly researched and came to cause harm to our Cavaliers would that
be "innocent"? Such professionals have a higher duty of care......or
so we are taught.
Best,
Suze
