Patricia Powers just did what I was about to do, which was change the
subject line (since I myself was never talking about "expelled breeders.")
And I'd like to say Thank you to Patricia for her post and offer to help.
Suze,
You're right that "this is not a 'professional organization;'" as I
wrote before, I think I may have been mistaken to expect the same
standards -- like fact-checking --(though it's usually not that hard to do).
I can't agree with you that it's "a group of hobby breeders" -- my guess is
that a meaningful percentage of the membership is comprised of non-breeders
as well, who are *also* committed to the breed *and* to the rights of hobby
breeders, thanks to whom we have our beloved "pet" Cavaliers.
Though it's not a professional org. along the lines of my field or
yours, nevertheless I had always thought that a national Cavalier club's
publications could be regarded as coming from a top "authority" *when it
comes to the breed* ; I see now this was my naivete. And I'm very sure I'm
not the only recipient of the Bulletin who felt that way (my fear now is
that many, if not the majority, still do) . As I wrote before, I already
knew about the DDAL's threat toward hobby breeders, even though I'm not a
breeder. But I also know that an awful lot of people, for various reasons,
do not (or cannot) take the time to doublecheck what they read in their
national club's publication. I didn't think they should have to; now,
thanks in part to your clarification, I know better.
