Hi Joy, One area of my home has " new floor " vs the victorian era pine. It was stripped, and all stained a very pretty med brown color. They never poly'd it, and I have had urine sit on it. No stains. The best part is, if you do get scratches or dents, if you use a scratch filler like Old English, it creates a fabulous old looking contrast. We also have cut nails vs new nails, and it is just so pretty. So I would have to say if I were going to redo floors or build a house, I would duplicate this process in a heartbeat. Again, we use bowling alley wax as a preservative, which works like a charm.
Good luck!
