That one phrase that Jeanie used really hit home with me today. Isn't it the truth? We can all relate to the physical labor of having a litter of puppies but the emotional wear and tear is just incredible. I lost a puppy last month after getting up every two hours and tube feeding him for 17 days. He had gained very little weight after being born at 2.4 oz prematurely. Our repro vet, who is also a maltese breeder, kept telling me that I was going to lose that puppy, but when he finally died in the middle of the night, I was depressed for days. You just feel like such a failure. You know it isn't going well, and you know in your heart that you are going to lose the puppy, but you just keep hoping against hope that it will turn a corner. Makes me wonder how some of you have done this for more than 20 years. I was ready to throw in the towel. I've gotten my second wind now and am taking pleasure in the remaining two puppies from that litter but gosh, this takes a toll on you. Myra
