My mom is from the south. She was convinced I was going to be an old maid, when I was in my late 20's and I had basically given up on finding mr. right. A dear male friend kept trying to set me up with someone he knew. I knew this other person, and I said NO WAY. I hated this other person. If I had seen him on the street when I was driving my truck, I wouldn't have slowed down. I thought he was the biggest jerk on the planet. But my friend persisted. We've (me and "the jerk") been together now for almost 6 years, married for almost 3. I've known him for 12 years, so it only took 6 years of sending him evil daggers for us to end up together. Our mutual friend came to the wedding, stood up at the reception, and just pointed at us and laughed. He said "I won't say I told you so, but..." I think the truth of the matter is that if I hadn't given up on finding the right person, I wouldn't have seen this wonderful person who was right in front of my face. Yes, I realize that we have only been married a relatively short time, but we've also been through a lot together (I had some serious health problems 3 months before we got married.) I figure if we can get through my being sick and our hating each other, we're in it for the long haul. <g> And he is turning into as much of a dog nut as I am. He actually asked me if we could buy dog art with which to decorate his media room.
