My doctor has prescribed capsaicin cream for the chronic pain in my
injured right hand. As you know, capsaicin is the essence that makes
hot peppers hot. It is supposed to soak right into the skin and it's
water-soluble so it will wash off (but you have to leave it on for
half and hour before washing). But a friend who has used it has
warned me that even after washing, i should not rub my eyes with that
hand because it will still burn.

I am very worried about the effect it might have on my dogs. I pat
and stroke them all the time. I give them treats and clean the
"sleep": out of their eyes. Am I in danger of causing them pain from
the residual cream that may be on my skin?

I am supposed to use this stuff 3 times a day so it will continually
be renewed.

Has anyone ever used capsaicin and did you have problems with it
affecting your dogs?

If the residual of this stuff on my hand is going to burn my dogs'
eyes or mouth or make them fear my hand, I am not going to use it.

Please email me privately unless others on the list are interested in
this situation.

thanks.
