I'm about to adopt a Cavalier who'll be just over 3 months old when I
get him and I'd like to take him for a check up to start off on a good
footing.

The breeder tells me he'll be fully vacinated by then and that as far as
she's aware there are no heart problems with the parents & grand
parents: however, I don't think they've really been tested for MVD.

I would welcome some advice:

1. At what age is it meaningful to test for MVD?
2. The same question for healthy patellas?
3. And for retinal folds?
4. What list of vacines would you recommend?
5. What else should I be asking / thinking about?

I hope this doesn't sound as if I'm over-protective or paranoid. I have
no reason to believe that this puppy is unhealthy. However, it seems
almost inevitable that one or more of these issues may become a problem
in later life and I assume that it will be helpful to have monitored the
evolution of any early symptoms.

Thanks in advance for your advice,
