I agree, Paula. This got me thinking (always a dangerous thing, especially so early on a Sunday morning and pre-caffeine to boot). I'm truly not trying to reignite a very touchy debate, but after many years' involvement in other breeds I just have to say that it continues to me to be a strange and baffling shame that there are some extremely nice AKC-only Cavaliers out there that remain verboten to CKCSC, USA member/breeders under current club policies. I personally find it very sad and unfortunate, never mind petty, especially considering that many of the unavailable dogs are healthy top-drawer imports! Forgetting the debate over accepting/registering AKC-only dogs into the club, why can't an ethical CKCSC, USA member legally breed to an 'outside' dog/bitch of their choice? After all, the CKCSC, USA member would technically be the one responsible for overseeing the welfare of any resulting litters. It really does seem like what's arguably best for the breed as a whole has been swept solidly--and by all appearances irrevocably--under a rug due to an ongoing political squabble. Strictly my opinion... Going for that cup of coffee now.
