Your post is a good one Alida, and your points are well taken. I'm afraid that sometimes I come across as being really mean about people who do not breed or show their dogs. I don't really feel that much animosity, and love to keep in touch with people who have bought pets from us. However, I do agree with you also that breeding issues should be decided by the breeders who will have to abide by the rulings that apply only to them. Winnie and Rod and Charlotte's lives will not change one iota if breeders are allowed to breed to AKC dogs. Nothing will change for them one way or the other. They can choose to buy cavaliers from whomever they please. Health testing is already mandatory for the pet owners on this list and elsewhere. It is mandatory because they can ask to see hard copies of test results and refuse to buy a puppy if the breeder has not tested their dogs. They are free to purchase a dual registered puppy, a CKCSC only puppy or an AKC only puppy. The choices are all theirs. Breeders on the other hand, are bound by some pretty silly rules. I can't go out and buy an AKC only puppy unless I plan to keep it only as a pet and never breed it. I can't go to other members of our AKC dog club and use their dogs, nor can I allow them to use ours. Of course we sit together at the health clinics and our pedigrees are very similar, but this stupid ruling doesn't allow us to exchange breedings. So, naturally there is frustration with the pet owners who love to have control over every little issue whether it concerns them or not. Yes, I admit I am frustrated with this level of arrogance. Many of us are. Myra
