I agree that maybe a band would be too much for a relaxing judges' lunch. What
we have done successfully in the past (IF you have enough active and
willing-to-participate members) is to have sort of a covered-dish meal, with each day
as a particular theme. Example, day 1 could be picnic-type foods (checkered
tablecloths and plastic ants for the ambience), with the club purchasing the main meat
(ham or Barbeque); day 2 could be like a Sunday meal (we chose Thanksgiving type foods
because our show was close to Thanksgiving). The judges really looked forward to our
show because of the homecooked meals. However, you should know that this is a lot of
work for the members, and requires a lot of participation. Now that our club has an
outdoor show that is over 30 minutes away from our town, we have gone to catered
lunches, which is easier to do. We also have fewer active members willing to help,
due to political upheaval, etc. Politics is unfortunately a part of about every dog
club I have seen, what a shame....But, if you can get a home-cooked type meal, I bet
the judges would appreciate it, it is so rare to get it on the road(casseroles,
salads, homemade cakes and pies for desserts, etc)

all-breed kennel club)
