Robert,
I don't know about dogs, but sometimes human females have a similar "odd" cycle
at first (actually, in humans it can last 2-3 years). Most of the time, they go on to
have perfectly normal reproductive cycles after they go through this phase. I would
just wait it out (while making sure the boys can't get to her, as she may ovulate
again), and, if it looks like it will last 6 weeks, take her to the vet for hormone
therapy. Hopefully, the rest of her cycles will be normal in time and duration.
Interesting timing of reading your question, I have Margaret Workman's book on
Cavaliers by my computer to kill time waiting for the computer to "do it's stuff", and
I had just looked at the page that showed Moorfields Maggy Cours as a 9 week old
puppy. What an adorable baby!

We have a puppy bitch who came in season at 6 months and had a normal
season which ended 2 weeks ago. today she seems to be in full season again ,
swollen and flirting with the boys who are very interested in her. Her
litter sister is in a pet home. The owners told me theirs had stayed in
season for 6 weeks and needed hormone treatment at the vets to end it. to be
honest , I thought it was their imagination, until today.
Does anyone have experience of this and if so what whould you recommend for
her? we were very hopeful for a successful showing /breeding career for her.
