Keep Teddy totally away from the other dog and see if the other dog still gets ear infections. That would be the way to prove that your dog is not at fault. In fact, I wouldn't give the neighbor a dime until this experiment was done. I have had Cavaliers for many years, they love to play tag with ears, and have NEVER had one cause another to have an ear infection (just shorter ear feathering <sigh>). I think it more likely that her dog has ear mites and you should have your vet check yours to see if it has ear mites as well as the neighbor's dog could have given your dog ear mites. Then you can ask her to pay for your vet expenses! All the best, Susan Cochran

It seems to me I do remember him piling on top of another poor defenseless puppy in the ring. (I am totally joking) Seriously... I agree with Joan that since this is a neighbour, to keep peace offering to share expenses might not be a bad idea. But I rather doubt that Teddy would have inflicted puncture marks in the other dogs ear.His teeth would be past the needle sharp stage and if he bit down hard enought to cause a wound you would certainly hear something from the other dog. I have a golden who has had infections on the outer ear but inflicted by himself. He has allergies and of course the ears are a chronic problem. When he scratches he inflicts small wounds which have occassionally become infected. When, I have watched my dogs playing, they usually will grab the lower part of the ear, not up near the opening to the ear canal. That is where a dog with itchy ears scratches, though. If the inflammation is surrounding the ear canal and not just on the ear flap I would strongly suspect something else including common ear canker. Infections from wounds have pus in them not wax substances and the wounds are usually swollen and red. I would bet that even if Teddy were not playing with that dog, the problem would re -occur.But I would be careful and monitor their play from now on just to keep the neighbour happy.
