Dear Annette,

You have my sympathies entirely. My son, who is now 31,also led me a merry chase all
through his younger years. He now says he will not have children because he is afraid
they will be just like him. I say if there is a god, he WILL have children! I can
count every gray hair on my head that is attributable to him. That would be all of
them. I both admired his daring zest for life and feared that it might be the end of
him. We sit back now and laugh until our sides hurt at all his antics but I remember
all too well the anxious moments he gave me. I can imagine that your nights are a
little sleepless and every ring of the phone makes your heart leap. But, children like
these seem to have a very over-worked but special guardian angel. I am sure he will
come home none the worse for wear and full of adventuresome tales.

As our children were growing up we had a saying posted in the kitchen..

AVENGE YOURSELF. LIVE LONG ENOUGH TO BE A PROBLEM FOR YOUR CHILDREN.

Many a day that kept me going when all else failed. One of our sons who has two
lively boys told us recently that he never liked that sign. But now he says he
understands it.

I do think this calls for a good dose of humour washed down with a little brandy. My
wishes for the safe return of your prodigal son.

Barbara Bond
