Hi, it sounds like you're using cl-opengl "classic". Try getting 
cl-opengl-thomas from darcs at 
http://common-lisp.net/~loliveira/darcs/cl-opengl-thomas

Personally I'm using the version from darcs without problems, but I dunno about 
the differences between that and the official download.
