It seems better now (using ClamAV version devel-20031224). Now every time I
send RELOAD to clamd.sock memory footprint drops to 16252K and doesn't grow.
I will keep an eye on memory usage over coming weeks.
Below is the clamd memory SIZE under different conditions on my machine with
main.cvd (version: 12, sigs: 11867, f-level: 1, builder: tkojm); daily.cvd
(version: 65, sigs: 90, f-level: 1, builder: ddm)
16112K reload started
16252K reload finished
16508K single telnet session to clamd.sock
16288K after telnet quit
16544K subsequent single telnet sessions to clamd.sock
16288K after telnet quit
Cheers,
Alex

Please test the latest CVS version.
