Hi All,
Firstly many thanks for your efforts maintaining excellent antivirus
that keeps me out of trouble with all latest worms (running on FreeBSD
4.9 with sendmail+MIMEDefang).
I was thinking how could I contribute and as my main development
expertise is in MS Windows environment I though that an easy to install
and use GUI application on top clamscan and freshclam would extend the
targeted audience. So I put together first alpha version of set of GUI
apps that call clamscan and freshclam as external processes. I named it
WinClamAV and of course it is distributed with GPL license.
The set of applications is:
1. WinClamAV.exe - main scanner, allows to select and scan a folder or
file, configure settings and update virus databases 2. Tray.exe -
windows taskbar tray icon, runs scheduler and provides easy access to
different WinClamAV.exe functions via right-click menu 3.
ExplorerShell.dll - a context menu handler for Windows Explorer.
Installs "Scan" into the right-click explorer menu for files and
folders. 4. COM Addin to MS Outlook is to be developed. Hopefully in Python.
Installer:
The package comes with an installer built with InnoSetup. Cygwin dlls
are included. To comply with Cygwin license I had to put cygwin sources
as a downloadable setup item.
I wanted to develop everything in python, however it turned out that COM
context menu implementation in pywin32 is not yet functional, hence I
used C++ and MinGW for that.
I am sending this announcement to the developers list only in order to
get your view on the approach, name of the software and it's
functionality before releasing it to public.
