I am an open source developer, and I think that clamav is not very user friendly with the naming of viruses.

I have read a majority of the virus naming threads now, and it seems to me that the clam developers don't really listen to users.

If I thought anyone would listen, I would consider trying to explain my points and ideas, but I don't see the point.

You dont sound too friendly yourself either. This horse has been beaten so many times that we all have charleyhorse.
Whats in a name? How can names not be user friendly?

Check out this nice volunteer's work:

If you would like to contribute and help Kevin, I and (I assume) the rest of us here would be appreciative.

Are you trying to say that you dont think an Alias database is the right way to go?
If so does that mean you recommend renaming the viruses?
Then I would ask you

- Out of principal, why should ClamAv coordinate with proprietary vendors, especialy when clamav discovers the virus first?
- Renaming things is bad. Bad for statistics and confusing for people trying to track what the hell is going on.

I am quite certain that the generally helpfull and ALWAYS friendly developers would love to participate in a consensus method for virus naming. But that does not yet exist.

Joe
