I know I could be anal but could you please have your crontab entry like this:
0 6,8 * * * root /usr/local/bin/freshclam --quiet -c 4 -l /var/log/clam-update.log
I have merged it into one. I don't know why you wanna run it at 6 and at 8, but in cron
you can specify multiple hours like 6,8,10...n.
My practice is also that I always specify the user I want the cron ran as.

This is okay. I am sure the cron will still work if you substituted user 'root' for
'clamav' as long as clamav home directory is owned by clamav.
