I get the same with CONTSCAN

$ telnet localhost 3310
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
CONTSCAN /var/src/clamav-devel-20031015/
/var/src/clamav-devel-20031015//test/test1: ClamAV-Test-Signature FOUND
/var/src/clamav-devel-20031015/: OK
Connection to localhost closed by foreign host.
