The EICAR test virus is good for the purpose of testing an AV solution. Grab it from here: http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm then send those files as attachments to yourself - clam detects it if your setup is working.
http://www.testvirus.org/ can also be used for this purpose if you are unable to send yourself email from an external account. On that page you can select how the file should be attached and to what address to send it. Great site for testing your setup.
