Thanks for the reply.  I tried it again just now.  I made a backup of my
clamav.conf, reran make install, and checked my clamav.conf only to find
that it had been clobbered again.  Ditto for freshclam.conf.

I haven't been able to get this to not happen during testing.  Any ideas?
