I poked around the archives but didn't find anything that looked like my problem...There's a change in newer version of clamav which requires a new version of exiscan (or you could hack your old one).
I'm running exim4 on a debian box. Installed spamassassin and clamav a couple of months ago, using the Tim Jackson howto. Worked pretty much as advertised.
Freshclam started telling me I needed to upgrade. Did the apt-get upgrade and a new one was installed. After that I see:
2004-05-20 23:06:02 1BR3AP-0002Tg-Sm malware acl condition: clamd: unable to read from socket (Success)
2004-05-20 23:06:02 1BR3AP-0002Tg-Sm H=mail.ocis.net [209.52.173.152] F=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> temporarily rejected after DATA
It involves "shutdown socket for writing".
Get the latest exiscan + exim and complie from source (don't know if an apt-version is available)
I hack my exiscan to fix it, but exiscan-4.34-21 should work flawlessly.
PS : There's a new option defer_ok in exiscan which allows mail unscanned incase malware condition failed.
Read the docs for details.
Thanks Fajar,
I found the information on defer_ok. Tried it in my configuration and get an error, so I suspect that the exiscan built into exim4-daemon-heavy from Debian Testing is too old. I guess I can either wait for a newer version to be prepared, or get the source and compile/patch it myself.
Too bad I wasted all that time chasing permissions and ownership last night! ;-)
Steven, yes, I had the exim user specified in the clamav configuration. Also had the groups set in both directions to have each allow the other. No luck. I'm guessing Fajar has identified the problem... nothing else seems to work! I'm just surprised that I haven't stumbled across mention of the requirement for the new exiscan in all my Googling...
Thanks to both of you!
Brock
