Try attaching strace to the process to see what it's doing. It would be interesting if it was stuck on a system call, though the CPU load makes it sound like it's stuck in a tight loop. Either way, grab the output and send it to the developers. If the problem is reproducible and the .ppt isn't confidential, it might also be helpful to give it to the developers to test with.
